Property Description

Holiday by the Sea in a Historic French Village Home Your Mediterranean villa retreat

On the Vermillion Coast near Spain, in the southernmost region of France, awaits your historic home in Argelès-Sur-Mer village. With all the comforts of home, your French villa has 3 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, open kitchen with bar, and large living-dining room for entertaining with fireplace. The home was recently renovated with modern comforts, while preserving the original vaulted ceilings, exposed stone and wood-beam historic architecture.

It has a private garage and garden patio with barbecue. Your typical French “maison de village” is tucked away on a quiet street in the charming town of Argelès-Sur-Mer. You are steps from the old Roman church, cafes, boulangeries, wine bars and local outdoor markets.

Best of all, you’re just a short walk to the Mediterranean sea, lined by 7 kms of immaculate sandy beach, Marina, fine restaurants and shopping. Your vacation retreat lies in the heart of Southwest France's lively and cultured Catalan region, boasting world famous art, traditional French and Spanish influenced wine and cuisine. And, yes - 330 days of sun a year.

Inspiration for Art

Great painters like Matisse, Derain, Dufy, and Picasso found inspiration in the beauty of these picturesque villages along the Vermillion and is reflected everywhere, from Collioure - drawing artists still today - to Ceret, home of the famous modern art museum.

Night Life, Shopping and History

Perpignan, with its shopping, nightlife and history on a grand scale (from the 13th century, its « Palace of the Kings of Majorca » is the oldest royal dwelling in France), is a magnificent Mediterranean city just 20 minutes away. The region’s rich local history can be seen and felt, from your village home to the churches, castles, Cathar ruins, medieval fortresses, and intriguing prehistoric sites.

Activities & Sites

Couples and families are sure to enjoy the vast array of activities: Wineries, nature reserves, golf, horseback riding, Sigean wild animal park, children’s playgrounds, amusement parks, and Marina and water sports (sailing, skiing, diving, fishing, wind & kite surfing).

You are less than 2 hours drive to the ski slopes of the majestic Pyrénées Mountains, Montpellier and even lively Barcelona, Spain. And Paris, Provence, the Dordogne, and Bordeaux are just a rapid-train away.

Transportation

There are daily, even international flights into the airports of Perpignan (25 min drive), Montpellier (1.5 hour drive) or Barcelona (2 hrs drive). Then rent a car at the airport. Argelès has a local train station just 500 meters from the house, and the train system is superb and a great way to relax and see the majestic countryside on your way. Your village home has a garage if you do rent a small car. No problem if you don’t: the local Argelès mini train runs all year providing easy access between the town and beach.

Otherwise, everything you need is in walking distance: market, shops, cafes, bars, restaurants and farmers market just around the corner and the beach is just a peaceful 20 minute walk away!
